Architecture Billings Index Continues Positive Momentum

CR architecture + design gets LEED Silver
The headquarters of CR architecture + design announces that their corporate office has been certified LEED Silver by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). CR earned Silver certification by achieving 27 points of high level environmental standards for site development, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor air quality.

The Best American Architecture Firms
Pugh + Scarpa, the winner of the 2010 AIA Architecture Firm Award, will change its name for the New Year, and will be known as Brooks + Scarpa in 2011. Former partner Gwynne Pugh left the firm on September 1st to start up his own enterprise, Gwynne Pugh Urban Studio, where he wants to now focus on large scale urban design projects.

Year in review: Arts and architecture
Early in the year, area museums took a hard look at the financial forecast for 2010 and hunkered down. There was no extravagant spending, like the Kimbell Art Museum's purchase of a Michelangelo in 2009. Instead, there was just a lot of hard work that paid off in more visitors and more programs.

Pioneering Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer celebrated his 103rd birthday here Wednesday by inaugurating the headquarters of his foundation. The future home of the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation bears the architect's unmistakable stamp: a white structure built from reinforced concrete, replete with curves and accessed by a spiral-shaped ramp.
