Graffiti Art Earns New Respect in Moscow
MOSCOW — From the Jean-Michel Basquiat show opening on Friday at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, to the street art retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, in April, highbrow institutions in the West are opening their doors to graffiti art.

'Lost Michelangelo' Painting Ended Up Behind Couch
(Oct. 13) -- It may have been sought after for years by some of Europe's most powerful cardinals, but for the past eight decades, the possibly priceless painting of the Virgin Mary hung above the fireplace -- and later sat behind the couch -- of a middle-class family home in New York state.

On Monday, Sotheby’s capped off the first day of its weeklong art auctions in Hong Kong with a strong contemporary Asian art sale that brought in 256 million Hong Kong dollars (US$32.8 million), nearly 50% over its high estimate.

Maryhill Museum plans $10 million expansion
Maryhill Museum of Art on Monday launched a $10 million expansion that will add 25,500 square feet to the Columbia River Gorge attraction. The Mary and Bruce Stevenson Wing will be designed by GBD Architects of Portland and is scheduled to be completed by March 2012.

ArtPrize voters cast nearly 100,000 votes in final six hours
GRAND RAPIDS – ArtPrize 2010 ended its first round of voting at midnight with an astounding 448,633 votes cast by 31,014 registered voters to pick the Top 10 pieces that will advance to the second round of the contest.

The Social Network Review Raves to Get Out of Hand?
The Social Network review scores cannot get more perfect. Already reviews are reaching historic heights, as rating remain perfect on Rotten Tomatoes. Not only is it still at 100 percent positive, it has an average 9.7 rating out of 10. Those numbers are unheard of outside of a Pixar movie, and if they hold until Friday, it will send a clear message to the Oscars.

More than 200 works of art including paintings by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat from The Dennis Hopper Collection will sold at Christie's in two auctions that could fetch up to $13 million.
