Bill Nye, The Science Guy, named director of The Planetary Society
Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” who first gained celebrity on Seattle television, has been named the new executive director of the Planetary Society. Nye will be just the second executive director in the organization’s 30-year history, taking the reins in September from Louis Friedman who, along with Carl Sagan and Bruce Murray, founded the Planetary Society in 1980.

Astronomer Copernicus reburied with fanfare and accolades
Nicolaus Copernicus, the 16th-century astronomer whose findings that the sun was the center of the solar system and not the earth were condemned by the Roman Catholic Church as heretical is finally appreciated. He's now been reburied as a hero by Polish priests on Saturday, May 22nd according to Associated Press reports. You can now visit his grave as well as his musuem in Frombork.

Astronomers Upset the Theory of Planetary Formation
The discovery of nine new planets challenges the reigning theory of the formation of planets, according to new observations by astronomers. Two of the astronomers involved in the discoveries are based at the UC Santa Barbara-affiliated Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGT), based in Goleta, Calif., near UCSB.
