For the Oct. 6 Sotheby's watch auction, a Patek Philippe platinum 5078P sold for 2.42 million Hong Kong dollars (US$312,000). It was "a most sought-after piece," says Ms. Herrera.

Braille Alphabet Bracelet Wins People’s Design Award
The votes have been tallied and the people have spoken: the Braille Alphabet Bracelet is the winner of the 2010 People’s Design Award. The Cooper-Hewitt’s annual crowd-sourced honor was presented to designer Leslie Ligon by White House Deputy Social Secretary Ebs Burnough and fashion designer Cynthia Rowley at last week’s National Design Awards gala in New York City.

99designs Holds Design Contest to ‘Design a Better GAP Logo’
99designs launched an open design contest to “Design a Better GAP Logo” in response to the criticism designers and GAP customers around the world expressed when the GAP recently unveiled its own logo redesign. The project was open for anyone to participate and received 4,660 submissions from over 1,000 designers in just 5 days.

Shane Abery's boxing design beat 27,000 others in the first competition of its kind in the Royal Mint's 1,100 year history.
Mr Abery said he had entered the competition by chance and was was "shocked and ecstatic" to have won.

It came from the Gap, which last Tuesday quietly unveiled its new brand mark on its Web site, with the well-known white text on a blue square giving way to simple black Helvetica text with a smaller blue square intersecting with the lowercase "p."

Criticism causes Gap to backtrack on logo
Gap, the global clothing chain, has backtracked on a substantial relaunch of its renowned logo just days after it was unveiled.
The new logo – three black letters and a small blue square – provoked a storm of online abuse from both customers and graphic designers on blogs after it was unveiled on Gap’s US website on Monday.
