May 23, 2010 at 4:25am - DevelopmentJust a small design change. I added a tiny bit of gradient to the header and footer.

May 19, 2010 at 4:19am - EntrepreneurshipI grew up and attended high school in Phoenix, and then moved to Seattle to attend college. One of the key differences between the two states is the level of talent within the technology and web industry. Maybe Seattle is heavily influenced by companies like Microsoft, and that's how it became such a tech savvy place...I don't know. But I do think that I initially got into web design because of all the people around me. Who knows if I would've started something like
MajorIndulgence in Arizona.

May 16, 2010 at 5:04am - DevelopmentOne thing I've noticed since working on
LegalTemple is that all the web dev tricks I learned from MajorIndulgence are now copied and modified to fit LT. Likewise, I'm sure that I'll be learning some new things while developing LT, and later carry those over to MI.

May 11, 2010 at 6:08am - DevelopmentThere's a major site change coming. Currently, there's tailored boards for all majors, and a board for each university. Pretty soon there'll be boards for
all classes within
all universities. So let's say I have 2000 universities in the database, with each university averaging 500 classes. That mean there would be 1,000,000 class boards. That's right, 1 million!
But of course, with a quantity like that, I can't be entering all of it in by myself. So the vast majority of these boards will be user-generated as they become needed. The above pic is a basic design outline and sketch of what I'm planning so far...

May 10, 2010 at 6:59am - DevelopmentI realized that sometimes people want to see the larger version of a person's icon, so I added this feature in. For best results, upload an image larger than 250px in either width or height.

May 7, 2010 at 12:37am - EntrepreneurshipWhen it comes to starting up an idea, it's really important to consistently work on it as much as possible so that you stay in rhythm. Once you get out of rhythm, it gets harder to go back into it, plus you always have to re-familiarize yourself with where you left off. More after the jump...

May 5, 2010 at 8:48am - EntrepreneurshipI thought about it for a long time whether or not I wanted to take on another business opportunity with a fellow co-worker of mine. I already had a full-time job in addition to designing MajorIndulgence, and feared that I might be doing too many things at once. But at the same time, MajorIndulgence is already published and fully functional, thus giving me time to code another project. More after the jump...

May 1, 2010 at 11:13pm - EntrepreneurshipSometimes it just feels like I'm in a tug of war against three people. And I don't just feel that way, I can somewhat prove it. With MajorIndulgence, there are three basic components that require my time:
design,
content contributions, and
marketing. All three take up a tremendous amount of time and ideally should be allocated to three different people. But as it stands now, it's just a one-man show. Ah damnit.

April 23, 2010 at 6:56pm - DevelopmentThere are times back when I was in the Architecture program where I would work for such long hours without eating anything. And it wasn't because I felt very hungry and just didn't bother to eat, it was because I didn't even feel hungry until I finished what I was doing.
There must be some biological process that suppresses things like hunger when you're in a state of extreme concentration. And I love being in that kind of zone and rhythm. It's how I know that whatever it is that I'm doing is worth doing. And I experienced that when creating MajorIndulgence as well.
