March 24, 2010 at 6:40pm - Finance Bootstrap - (
adjective) self-generating or self-sustaining.
When it comes to starting up a business and finding a way to finance it, there are essentially three ways to go about it:
(1) Funding from external sources.
(2) Funding from external sources and one's own finances.
(3) Funding it entirely yourself (bootstrapping).
More after the jump.

March 23, 2010 at 11:14pm - Web developmentI learned a lot of my web development skills via the Internet, especially through Googling various tasks that I wanted to get done within MajorIndulgence. However, if you're willing to pay for training, I would highly recommend the
Lynda series of video tutorials. They hire specialists who truly understand the applications to teach newbies about whatever program or computer skills you would need. I've watched some of the samples videos and with many of them, I can't think of a better way to teach people. Highly recommended.

March 23, 2010 at 9:23pm - StartupI know that developing a startup isn't supposed to be easy, even when I was still in conceptual development. It's a daunting task. You're essentially betting on something that statistically has a small chance of success, but you follow through the best you can anyways because you believe in the idea enough to spend insane amounts of time with it. This might be a completely inappropriate analogy, but if you're going to do anything like this, you should view your startup as your own child. And just as you would do anything to ensure the survival and welfare of your child, you should approach your startup with the same fierce determination to keep it alive and well. Not just surviving, but thriving into the future. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and just don't want anything to do with MajorIndulgence for the entire day. And that's happened, plenty of times. But hopefully I can get into my rhythm and start to push this through rapidly.

March 23, 2010 at 7:42pm - Service & SupportIf you asked someone a legitimate question, wouldn't you want a response to that question, and also within a timely manner? I think for 100% of human beings out there, the answer is an absolute
YES! The image above shows two businesses,
XYplorer and
Irfanview. Each product is owned and developed by an individual, and both of them provide great customer service. More after the jump...

March 23, 2010 at 5:18pm - AdvertisingSo here's my alma mater, and what I believe to be the most concentrated areas of campus. Now how to get them to notice...? More after the jump.

March 22, 2010 at 12:57am - AdvertisingIf I typed this, and then this, and then
THIS, what do you notice? The third "this" right? Of course, it's only natural. The bold case was created in typography to place emphasis on certain words and to draw attention.
How does this apply to advertising? Well if you think about a typical college student walking to class day after day, most of what that student sees will be typical college campus fare. So the trick is to insert the
BOLD within the otherwise mundane walking from class to class. So that brings me to another advertising idea: sidewalk chalk! Yes, what if I wrote
MajorIndulgence.com along the busiest paths on campus? People are sure to notice. No permanent damage of course, it's all water-soluable chalk that washes away with the rain. I just hope that if I go through with it, I don't get into too much trouble. Ha!

March 22, 2010 at 12:26am - MarketingOK, so I've printed this list of universities in the United States so that I can keep track of which ones I've done any kind of marketing. My hope of course is that I won't have to go through every single one of them, but that eventually word of mouth would help spread it to others.

March 21, 2010 at 11:42pm - DevelopmentI was flipping through my past work on MajorIndulgence and came across my early concept sketches on its design. Back then I had little knowledge of web development and didn't really know if I would ever bring the idea into fruition and publish the site. Well, I'm glad I put in the effort and time to make it happen.

March 21, 2010 at 6:09am - RandomThis must be some kind of psychological thing going on, but the more I look at my website, the more I obsess with the details and think I've made all kinds of mistakes. Even when I know I've checked something twice already, sometimes I'll look at it again to see if I got it right. The problem is that I'm occupying myself with minute details that really don't matter, when instead I should be aggressively promoting the site. Maybe all of this is simply a part of my
OCPD going into overdrive.
