I recently had the backlight on my Macbook Pro go out, and after some research I found out that instead of giving Apple $310 for the repair, I could buy a $9 backlight from ebay and replace it myself. Usually when you see your screen flicker or go completely black or give off a pinkish tone, it's usually the backlight dying. It's so much cheaper to replace it yourself, so long as you have a little patience. It was worth it for me.
