Topic: How much focus does your university put on digital software? |
I went to the University of Washington, Seattle. One of things I always felt was lacking was the digital software training. It was not at all part of the required curriculum, except for a brief lesson on SketchUp during the first studio.
And it really amazes me that that was the case, considering how many architectural firms list digital software as one of the requirements for new hires.
People who did not know Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD or Microstation all had to learn it themselves or take elective classes. And even then, those elective classes only got to intermediary levels.
I remember that even during the last studio before graduation, there were some in my class that had trouble figuring out basic tasks in Photoshop on their final drawings. In this day and age, all architectural programs should place a heavy focus on the digital aspects of design.
