It looks like Wikipedia's donations are falling short and they're placing the banner at the top asking for donations again. But seriously, there's nothing wrong with placing ads. Just make them non-intrusive and relevant to the article and the site should be set.

It's difficult to get people to donate to a site that people know full well can support itself with ads. People like to donate to organizations that they know have no access to other sources of funding.
