Because these days you can Google just about anything and find even the most obscure parts on ebay. I'm on a Macbook Pro and thank goodness I didn't give in to the sales guy's insistence of buying Apple Care over three years ago. I've been able to sucessfully troubleshoot all software and hardware problems myself.

I suppose if you're completely tech-stupid you might purchase extended warranties, but don't be surprised if you never use it.
