He's completely ruined a part of his reputation. When Carson left the Tonight Show and Jay took over, it was widely believed that he "stole" it from Letterman, and now if Jay does indeed get the Tonight Show again from Conan, he would be doing it all over.

Now that NBC canceled the Jay Leno Show, he should just retire for good and left Conan keep the Tonight Show. What a mess NBC.
