Topic: Dante's Inferno...I mean God of War X360 |
Just finished a demo of the upcoming Dante's Inferno title coming to Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP in February. I have to admit, it was pretty intense at times, but it seemed that after every turn and every kill, I kept having to remind myself I wasn't playing God of War. I played all the way through God of War, and played a little bit of God of War 2, and this game seemed like it was exactly the same as those two; button smashing, swinging abnormally large weapons around, hitting enemies you know for sure you're too far away from yet you hit them anyway...you know, those sort of things. Jumping on giants backs and pressing the button that pops up on the screen to progress the attack, not really actually doing anything but pressing buttons and watching. I'll admit, if the employee hadn't told me what to do in a couple spots, I more than likely would have been killed and had to start all over. Which tells me that this game will take a while to play through...the FIRST time, but every time after that, you'll know it's coming and laugh at it when it misses you. Anyway, overall the game was pretty good, if you enjoyed God of War, you'll be able to handle this one no problem. The random nudity happened about 6 times just in the 20 or so minute demo, so there's likely more where that came from, again, God of War resemblance. It's due out February 9th. For those of you dying to get your hands on it, your local game stores have probably already sold their pre-orders, so you'll just have to wait!

Never played it.
But when I played God of War for the first time, I was comparing it in my head to the Devil May Cry series. I'm still undecided which series is better.

I've played both, and they each have their individual differences but on the whole aspect of the game, they're the same in my opinion. Hack and Slash, button mashing, and puzzles that a 6 year-old could solve. Anyway, this is why I'm more of an RPG person, each game has specific and unique differences, different characters, and often times completely different styles of gameplly, granted, they all generally have one conclusion, save the world.

The "saving the world" archetype will always and forever be within video games.
I feel like game designers should make the main protangonist go on a quest that is more personal. That's one of the things I liked about Shenmue. It was about a young man seeking to avenge his father's death. They developed it pretty good too.

This is why I sometimes find myself playing games like Grand Theft Auto, where the objective is to destroy things, ruin reputations, and ruin the nation...it's a far cry from saving the world. The GTA series is kind of crappy but it's a good example...
