Not talking about driving cars, but walking.

When I'm on a sidewalk, I always stay on the right side, even if there's no one else walking towards me. I suppose it's out of habit.

If you've grown up in America, you always travel on the right side. It's in our programmed minds from day 1. Whether you're on a sidewalk, in a hallway, crosswalk, staircase, highway, boulevard, even waiting in line at a grocery store, we're always on the right. It's why people love one way streets, not because they're convenient and allow you to progress much faster, but because there is only one lane, the right lane. People will travel an extra block and make three right turns in order to avoid making a left turn. Don't say they won't, I've seen them do it, I've done it, if the street is busy enough, sometimes it's faster to do this anyway, and, you're always in the right lane, the safe lane, the lane we're comfortable with, the lane we travel in from day 1 until the day we die. Even on the way to the cemetery, you're in the right lane.
