Topic: Thoughts on DLC?

There was some controversy over Dragon Age: Origins, where many people complained that the game lacked a storage chest, and they had to pay extra to unlock that feature.

I think paid DLC is fine when it's only an extra to the game. But many players felt that the lack of a storage chest was crippling to the game, and paying extra was the only way to "fix" the game.

I though Dragon Age was kind of lame. I followed it through the course of its development, and they had planned early on that they had ideas that weren't going to be included in the Alpha Release because the ideas hadn't been 100% completed or tested yet. The particular article I read explained how these "ideas" would be consecutively released following their completion. I didn't foresee the greedy bastards making players pay for their unfinished ideas. It's like Microsoft, Windows 7 is essentially Windows Vista with a face-lift and implants, yet they call it something new and charge you an arm to upgrade from vista, and an arm and a leg to buy it outright. I think they should have just released another service pack for vista that installed the changes that were made to turn vista into 7. But instead, they saw a dollar sign in the distance and ran for it...

Yes, I think you hit it.

When any company intentionally withdraws finished content from the final release, that's usually a bad sign. This is entirely different than say World of Warcraft, where expansions were always planned but definitely not finished when WoW was released. Also, the WoW expansions are far more robust than the typical DLC, which usually lasts for 1-2 hours.
