Having watched it a second time now, the difference between Betty's dreamworld and real world is a strong commentary on the effects of broken dreams and the various coping mechanisms that people exhibit in order to simply get through the day.

Other weird stuff I'll never understand (maybe it's not meant to be understood?), but the overall emotional impact of the film is great.

One of the best films of the part decade.
